When Does It Snow?
Gulmarg typically sees reliable snowfall late December through February. Srinagar gets lighter spells. For deep powder, target mid-January.
The Gulmarg Gondola: Book Ahead
Phase 1 (to Kongdoori) runs most days; Phase 2 (to Apharwat, 3,980 m) opens weather-permitting around 10–11 AM after avalanche checks. Buy tickets online the night before — morning queues can eat two hours.
What to Pack
- Layered clothing: thermals + fleece + waterproof shell
- Waterproof boots with grip (rent in Gulmarg if needed)
- Sunglasses & sunscreen — snow glare is intense
- Power bank: cold drains batteries fast
Safety & Connectivity
Tourist zones are well-patrolled and welcoming. Mobile data works in Srinagar and Gulmarg town; carry cash since ATMs run dry on weekends. Roads close temporarily during heavy snowfall — build one flexible day into your plan.
